Clothes dingy, how do I brighten them?

Question:I use Purex with bleach alternative, and on whites I add Clorox bleach. They are not so bad but the jeans??

Answers:
To whiten whites:
Add one cup of Hydrogen Peroxide to a load of whites and wash as normal.

For items already yellowing mix a quarter cup of Cascade in a bucket of hot, hot water soak the garments in the mixture to whiten whites.

Try not to over dry white items. Use a lower temperature setting as the higher settings can yellow whites.
Also, some liquid fabric softeners can cause yellowing in white fabrics if not rinsed out well.

To brighten colors:
Using either regular detergent with the addition of color safe bleach, or a bleach alternative included in the detergent, add either 1 cup of Vinegar or 2 cups of Vodka to a load of colors and wash as normal.

For your Jeans:
Do not use color safe bleach, or any detergent with a bleach alternative. Instead use a regular detergent and add 1/2 cup of Borax to a load of jeans, and wash as normal. Your jeans colors will be brighter and prevent fading.

When laundering jeans turn them inside out for both the washing and drying. Be sure not to over dry as this will cause fading.

Hope this helped.

Color Brightener
If you add about 1/3 of a cup of white vinegar to your rinse cycle, you´ll find that your clothes will come out brighter and softer. Any vinegar scent should vanish after the clothes have been dried.

Fresher Looking Whites
You should be able to restore your clothes to white (and not damage the fibres of the fabric) by soaking them them in lukewarm water and color safe or oxygen bleach for 24 hours, then rinse them with vinegar and water. Use one tablespoon of vinegar to one quart of water. Your clothes may be turning gray because you have hard water, and this diminishes the effectiveness of detergents, and often leaves a residue on clothing. If you think this is a case, you may want to add a powdered water softener to your wash, particularly when washing white clothes.=)
That´s your problem, To much bleach, bleach only makes your white clothes look good for a very short time. They end up looking yellow & gray, I can suggest you try with some good old fashioned soap bar , soap. Soak in cold water, remove from the water& rub in the soap. Leave the clothes with the soap on , free from water say about 1/2, back to the cold water give a rub, add more soap but this time leave the soap on & pop into your machine on a normal wash. Another thing to remember, by hanging yourclothes outside will give you the best result´s . The sun will bleach your white , whiter than white, the natural way
