What is the best home remedy for cleaning a sterling silver that has discolored?
Question:I have a sterling silver toe ring (which I've worn for years) and all of a sudden, it's started to discolor. What's the best home remedy to remove the discoloration?

Tooth past and hot water...Brush with toothbrush and rinse with hot watter.
I've used vinegar and baking soda, allowing the silver to soak for about 15 minutes or until it is cleaned. I used this solution on a sterling silver commemorative plaque..worked very well. Likely the acidic change in your body chemistry has resulted in this change...if this is bothering you...check your diet for any changes in eating habits you've made since you noticed this color change, otherwise chock it up to age of the ring.

Baking soda, aluminum foil & boiling H2O. I restore all kinds of antique sterling silver jewelry, teapots, trays, silverware and decorative items using this method. Line a glass baking dish with a sheet of aluminum foil. It must be one deep enough to accomodate the items you seek to clean. Then put in baking soda (for a toe ring 1/4-1/2 cup should do) evenly on the foil. Then submerge the item in boiling water and let the foil and soda do all of the work. Just remember to dry the item off thoroughly after treating it because the mineral deposits in the water cause tarnish.
You can use most any toothpaste and an old toothbrush. This is what I do and it gets all of my jewelry clean.
Use toothpaste and a toothbrush. It will work beautifully on silver, platnum or gold. I have used it on all my various rings for 15 years now and no scrathes or discoloration. Be sure it is paste and not gel, and nothing with whitener in it. :)
Place sheet of aluminium foil in a bowl. Fill bowl with hot water, add water softener and salt, couple of table spoons full.
Immerse silver in mixture and discolouration should fall away.
