My niece vomited on my carpeting a couple of months ago - cleaned area several times but stains remain?

okay, that's a nasty visual there. Maybe this will help.

I have had some success removing pet vomit from carpet by making up a paste of a product called Oxyclean and rubbing it into the stain, then removing it with a water soaked cloth. A rental carpet cleaning machine might work better than the cloth.

Test it on an inconspicous area first though to make sure it doesn't leave a mark on the carpet or discolor it.

This stuff removes red wine stains too. It should be available at your local market in the detergent aisle.

How old is your niece? If we're talking baby spit-up, you've got your work cut out for you; there's nothing harder to clean.

You're going to need a digestant laundry product (with enzymes) to get through the stain. Here's our very own Martha Stewart with some handy advice on getting rid of them:

Try using salt, lemon, and vinger it removes the odor if it is still there and the acid in the vinegar and lemon create a compound that removes the craziest stains.
There is this brand called Goo Gone. The cleaner you want is the one that comes in wipes like armor all or what ever. It doesn't matter if the stain is dried or wet it will remove it without doubt. I don't know where all it's sold at but I bought mine from bed bath and beyond.
I would try Simple Green. My son vomited on my husbands good sweatshirt. I washed it a few times using oxyclean, spraynwash, ect. Nothing I tried worked so, the shirt became a work shirt. About 6mths later I tried Simple Green on my husbands stained greasy work pants. The pants came clean. I tried it on the sweatshirt and the stain came right out. I now use it on all my kids cloths. It works all the time. Good Luck
depending on what you used to clean it there is probably a residue and that is why it keeps coming back. get rid of the soap left with 1 tbsp. white vinegar to 1 qt. water. rinse. this should remove it and kill bacteria. if it doesn't try peroxide as long as carpet is man-made (nylon, berber, polyester etc.) it will bleach any natural fiber such as wool, cotton and your hair. all else fails call a pro. the stain may have been set by a cleaning product. always read the fine print on anything you use. hope this helps :)
By far the best and cheapest rug cleaner ever:
1 Tsp. of White Vinegar
1/2 Tsp. of Ammonia
3 Tbsp. of Dish Soap
3/4 Cup of water

Mix together and put in a foaming dispenser (most hand soaps are now foamers) or just whisk up. Using ONLY the foam, use a damp sponge on the stain. It removes new and set in stains. Seriously, got this from a friend of mine and used it on her carpets to clean some stains before she moved out of her place. Absolutely amazing!
