Question:How and in what, should I wash my boyfriend's work clothes? He has everything from paint residue, to sweat (works outside), to concrete..his clothes are literally soggy when he gets home....how do I get the smell out. They never smell quite as fresh as the rest of the laundry..Help.
(I've tried Tide, Gain, Purex, and All. Everything seems the same. Need something HIGH POWERED)

Awww, I am sorry to hear what you have to go through with your boyfriends clothes, I too have the same problem with my husbands clothes, so I can help you out and you will achieve results inexpensively, First fill machine with the hottest water his clothes can handle, then add one cup of White Vinegar, do not add detergent wash these clothes in the vinegar and wash on full cycle, his clothes will come out soft and deodorized and many stains will be removed including detergent residues which is the cause of many odors being left in the clothes in the first place.

Now to help with the paint stains Paint

Oil base: Sponge stains with turpentine, cleaning fluid or paint remover. Pre-treat and wash in hot water. For old stains, sponge with banana oil and then with non-flammable dry cleaning solvent. Wash again.
Water base: Scrape off paint with dull blade. Wash with detergent in water as hot as is safe for fabric.

Perspiration

Sponge fresh stain with ammonia; old stain with vinegar. Pre-soak in cold or warm water. Rinse. Wash in hottest water safe for fabric. If fabric is yellowed, use bleach. If stain still remains, dampen and sprinkle with meat tenderizer, or pepsin. Let stand 1 hour. Brush off and wash. For persistent odor, sponge with colorless mouthwash.

and to remove the cement, try WD-40 spray just spray on and leave on the cement for about three to four hours then wash in detergent on full cycle in hottest water the clothes can handle

When washing your clothes normally add Vinegar to your rinse cycle and it will keep the clothes smelling fresh and soft and you don't need any fabric softners added to your wash, if you have a dispenser just fill the dispenser to the top, if no dispenser then just add a quarter cup, thats it. Another added benefit of Vinegar is that it also disinfects and is touted as being the best disinfectant in the world, you can also use it to clean and disinfect your whole house it is a great all purpose cleaner, it removes residues, stains, freshens and cleans your whole wash and will also brighten and whiten whites. Good Luck !

Toss em. Thats why they're work clothes!
hahahha. try e-f tide?
Try handwashing if it bothers you that much. Wash his stuff seperately. Google it!
when you do his laundry, try putting some baking soda in with the detergent. It helps me with my husbands clothes.
Try soaking them in vinegar prior to washing them. Or dump half a cup of baking soda into the wash water (use with detergent).
I had a shirt that a bad smell would not get out of no matter how many times I washed it sooo.. I soaked it in oxy clean for a day and then washed it. NO more smell.
Try using Oxo Brite or Oxy Clean. You can just add a little to the wash water or soak the clothes in a lot. Instructions are on the package. Mule Team Borax also works similarly. Both are in the detergent aisle. Or try adding a 1/4 cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle. It takes out the smell.
Have you tried using a really good smelling liquid fabric softener with them also?
Get some borax from the supermarket. It will be in the cleaning products area, probably near the top or botton shelf. Note borax, not boracic acid. Dissolve about a tablespoon in a tub of water and soak the clothing for at least half an hour before washing. Then line dry in the sun, don't use a drier.

This will not remove paint or concrete, nothing practical will.

If this does not work you could try a similar soak in water with about a cupful of cheap white vinegar. The vinegar might lift a little of the concrete after a few washes.
Go to Walmart or Dollar General and get a bottle of the all purpose cleaner, Fabuloso. It is intended for use as a surface cleaner but my hubby's work clothes smell of diesel and pesticide(he's a farmer) and once I started adding the Fabuloso, it cut the stench. Just wash clothes as normal, adding the Fabuloso where you would normally add beach.
Try using Oxi Clean as a booster to your favorite laundry detergent. Using vinegar or lemon juice may serve as an astringent that will help also. Baking soda is also a good, natural odor absorber.
Febreze makes a good odor remover that you just put a capful into the wash along with your detergent. It's difficult to find, but Walmart usually carries it. It's not cheap, but well worth the price. I use it to wash my dog's blankie and it comes out smelling wonderful.
Use Harm and Hammer washing soda!
My husband plays in dirt all day for a living and I swear somedays his work clothes can stand straight up without anyone wearing them. They stink so bad! But I do have the ultimate cure. I wash them normally.then I do a rinse cycle with a cup of white vinegar. They smell great afterwards, so he can just get them dirty again. The vinegar is also great for cleaning out your washing machine so your killing 2 birds with one stone. Happy Washing!
Try some Lysol. Might want to prewash in this and then wash them in a detergent like Surf-made especially to fight odors. The Lysol will help to kill the bacteria that cause the odors.
