While I agree with you, how do you set up the plumbing to accomodate that? I can only see moving buckets around.
Don't keep the water running when you brush your teeth.
Recycling grey, non toilet, water is not a new concept but not one easily done either. Check with your local building inspection office but this sort of thing is usually encouraged not prohibited. You do want to do this right though as cross contamination can be serious business. I would at least find a book or get a professional. You will need to provide separate drain piping, a collection tank, filter, pump and then be prepared to clean toilets more often.
It is almost impossible to reuse shower water to flush your toilet without a lot of work( bucketing water or high cost of installing pipes...) One solution to be environmental is taking a shower in the back yard. All the water will just help you water the lawn.
your shower puts out 2-3 gallons per minute. Take a shorter shower.
place 2 gallon buckets all over the bath tub, they can sit there and fill as you take your shower. since toilets are often next to the bathtub, just grab a bucket when you want to flush and dump it in. Repeat as necessary.
my mom used to put a couple buckets in the shower to catch water while she bathed...be careful not to trip on the buckets.
then she used the water right from the buckets for plants and whatever else.
