I through my white keds into the washing machine with a cup of bleach and laundry detergent and let them dry in sun.
My sneakers look New after each wash. It might be shortening the life span of the shoe but mine have lasted 18 months with regular bi-monthly washings.
You didn't say what the stain was from or what color your sneakers are. I'd try Oxyclean first. It's the safest. If that doesn't work, try vinegar or a baking soda paste, and use a nailbrush or some such thing. If they are white, bleach may not take all the yellow out. Have you tried the Tide to Go stick yet? If this is any sort of ink or marker, try hair spray. That works well too. It'll take a lot of work, but spray on a white towel (rag) and rub on the stain. You'll have to do this over, and over, and over, but it works.
