Denatured alcohol will dissolve it quite readily, wet and blot with cloth towel repeatedly.

what is the fabric?

on a part that you can't see...take one of those dry erase makers...write on your sofa and then rub it off. If it comes off, cover the permanant marker with the dry erase marker and rub it off...sounds crazy, but it works...but test it first, cuz it doesnt work on all leather
Might help... might make it worse...
Model aircraft glow fuel.
It DOES remove permanent inks from nonporous materials. (takes permanent marker right off of corrugated plastic)
However it might cause the ink to bleed into a larger but duller spot...

If the sofa is worth the cost... call a professional... they will be able to get better results than anything you can do. They have the expensive equipment needed to deal with such things.
Try hairspray, rubbing alochol, Goof Off (in that order, testing an inconspicuous part of your sofa for colorfastness first.) Remember to blot with an absorbent light colored rag. Don't rub, it will make it worse. I usually use an old cloth diaper or a terry cloth towel. Good luck!
