How do you get rid of funky odors from refrigerator plastics?
Question:For example the automatic ice cube maker tub has an awful smell...We have used baking soda...bleach and still cannot get that "funky" odor out? Any suggestions? This also makes our ice taste bad and we have to rinse it a few times before using. Thanks for any advice:)
Answers:
fill kitchen sink with water and add 2 cups white vinegar soak the items over night, rinse well
You can run those tubs through the dishwasher (top rack) if it'll fit.
Also check to see that the area around/inside the ice maker is clean. There could be some dirt or junk that's getting into the ice.
Sometimes cleaning something out with vinegar will help too. But it almost sounds like there's some fungus or bacteria getting into the ice supply to make it smell/taste bad. Check the pipe into the refrigerator's water supply too. If it's corroded or bad, that could happen too I'd reckon.
vinegar and baking soda.
boiling water (if you can remove it)
leave a box of baking soda in the fridge.
maybe you need the filter changed too.
To freshen the smell, use lemon juice instead of vinegar mixed with the baking soda.
If you have a dishwasher I would put it on the top rack and run it a couple of time in the dishwasher. If that doesn't work I would soak it in the sink with hot water and a cap full of bleach. That should help.
