Getting yellowed clothes back to white??
Question:My son is going to be christened soon and I would love it if he could wear my fist sons outfit. However the outfit is over 10 years old and is no longer white it's more yellow aged looking. Any ideas on how to get it back to white? Would a dry cleaner be able to do that or is it simply too late??
Answers:
well i'd try the dry cleaner first. if that doens't work and you feel all is lost then go ahead with the other options - shout, cloroxz all fabric bleach or my favorite - borax!. however i'll add - hang it to dry outside in the sunshine making sure it gets it on both sides (might have to perodically flip). the sun is a natural bleachng agent!!
They make liquid shout refil I just poured some in with my whites and they arent yellow anymore and I mean they were yellow.let the water mix up first with your laundry detergent and shout and then add your clothes
If it's dry clean only then nothing works. Dry cleaners can't get it back to white I guaranty you. If you wanna try liquid shout, mix hot water with your detergent first, then liquid shout follows and put in the white satin. Keep it soak for 30 minutes but soak in the water evenly at times so you can get that discoloration out on all spots. Hang to dry after rinsing but avoid wrinkling the garment and iron it right away when it's dry. It's worth trying this before you buy a new one and see if you're happy with the result. Avoid going to the cleaners cause I'm pretty sure dry cleaners can't get that out like my favorite white shirt gone bad like this discoloration.
Go directly to the dry cleaner. They may be able to help. If not, they will let you know. I know some are urging you to use clorox, bleach, etc. However, it's satin and the fabric would be ruined. This is an heirloom, so please be cautious.
