How do you get that black stuff off an iron?

Nail polish remover, it also gets hair spray off of a curling iron and it will look new again:)
buy a new iron. You can get a decent on for $10 at walmart
No-bake oven cleaner or Barkeeper's Friend. Both work pretty well.
they sell these little cloth things at wal mart that get it off really well. i cant remember what its called though.
Try Mr. Clean magic Erase. Works on everything else.
You can iron over a piece of waxed paper,that takes off old spray starch.
