I left a dirty rice pot in the kitchen sink for about a week. is it still ok to use after i wash it?


Question:i was being lazy and forgot to wash the rice pot. it still had some leftover rice in it and i had water in the pot too. could i get sick if i still used it?

Yes you can use it again. Gosh! just give it a really good scrubbing! let in sit in boiling hot water for awhile to kill all the bacteria


if you wash it correctly you will be fine.
hot water,detergent w/bleach & a scratchy pad.rinse well & you should be fine.you will get mice & roaches if you don't do your dishes everyday.
As long as all the rice [even the sticky-on residue nubbins] is thoroughly scrubbed off and the pot is all shiny and smooth inside again, ordinary soapy dishwater is all you'll need for the final touch. Only risk would be if the pot were ceramic with hairline cracks [hidey-holes for bacilli etc.] but a metal, glass, stainless steel, aluminium, etc. type of pot can be made safe to use again by scrubbing 100% and finishing off with soapy water & a good rinsing..
That is why you need to wash it. It could be a whole soup of germs by now. Scrape off all you can. Put in hot water and some soap and scrub it until it kind of looks clean. Then put in fresh water and boil it for about five minutes. If you see any little remaining crud scape that out and pour on some more boiling water. If it looks clean and has been in boiling water it should be good for anyone then.
yes it is...and to get the rice unstuck from the pan there is a trick I like to use...take the pot and pour water in it...enough to cover the entire bottom...then put the pot on the stove and let it come to a boil...while its boiling you take a spoon and loosen up the stuff on the bottom until its all loose.take off the stove and wash like usual and your pot is good to go...
After removing all the old food thoroughly, soak it in a solution of hot water and a bit of bleach for oh, maybe 15 minutes. Make sure you rinse all the inside and outside of the pot and handles with the bleach water to kill any bacteria, rinse well with clean warm water and you are good to go.
Wash with hot water and soap--preferably antibacterial. You will be fine. If you have a dishwasher I would suggest putting it through a wash there after you finally manage to get the gunk off from the ancient rice. You might be able to make rice paper from that stuff. I do not think that plain white rice is a choice medium for bacterial growth anyway. It doesn't have much on the lines of optimal conditions. Just to be safe I would definitely use soap and hot water to wash it and fully dry the pot before cooking anything else in it. Next time you could safe much time and concern by merely rinsing it out fully. I know, I know, I'm lazy too. You will not get sick from the gross rice pot after you wash it.
Did it ruin your pot? Did you clean your pot with boiling water and baking soda and soak it for an hour or so...Then was it clean & wiped good ??..I don`t see why you can`t use it unless the food stayed engraved in the pot..

You could use it after you wash it well and let it dry. I'd scrub it with baking soda to get any smell out. Use the baking soda like you would Ajax or Comet.

My hubby left something growing in our for about 3 weeks (i was on vacation) when i got home i scrubbed it out really good , checked for cracks then wiped with a bleach solution then rinsed. That was three years ago and never had an ill effect
