"Natural" soap for linens?

Question:I have a stained white afghan, and it was suggested that I wash it in natural soap, lay it in the yard, and let the sun do the work. I will have to wash the afghan in the washing machine (gentle cycle), as I don't have a sink large enough.
My question is, what qualifies as a "natural" soap? Especially one that I can put in the machine?
Has anyone used a particular soap that worked well?

Answers:
It depends what the fabric content is and what the content of the stain is. You can't remove any stain without knowing those 2 things.
Organic fabrics (cotton, linen, silk, rayon) require different handling than synthetics (polyester, dacron, acetate, nylon).

I often use a bar of ivory soap and rub it on the stain with a little cold water. Use cold water to rinse just the stained area.

If the stained afghan has been washed and machine dried already, the heat of the dryer has set the stain so it will just about impossible to get out.

i've used Felz Napa soap.. u use a knife & shears curls into the washer or Ivory.. i think they r natural.

u can try rubbing it on the stain lst while it's damp then throwing into the washer.
