Awful smell in thermos flask ?

Question:I forgot some tea plus teabags in a thermos flask for about a week. How do I get rid of the awful rotten smell in the stainless steel flask? I´ve already tried vinegar and bicarbonate of soda and the flask still pongs. Any better suggestions? I do not want to throw the flask away.

Answers:
Fill with freshly boiled water and add a good amount of squeezed lemon leave over night. Then rinse..clean with vinegar and water removing any stains. Rinse with clean cold water and leave exposed to fresh air for a day or two.. voila
a vaccum flask smelling like new.

put some lemon juic in there and leave it for a couple of days
it may be the plastic lid? Soak it in vinegar or if all else fails go to bleach.
Rinse it out with vinegar and hot water. Wash it out, then add more hot water and a slice of lemon. rinse out and it will be good as new.
If you buy some Milton sterilising fluid and use it as directed it will remove the smell.

Good Luck.
use a couple of sterilising tablets like they use in a baby's bottle,, then make some black coffee put it in the thermos
and then have a cup coffee
Milton fluid. or bay bottle sterilising tablets should do the trick.
i'd try some sterilisng fluid or tablets and leave the lid off for a while.
I suppose lemon juice would work, but seems like it would only be masking the smell.
I would pour a few drops of dish soap into the flask, fill it almost full (about 3/4) of very hot water, give it a few good shakes, and let it soak for a while, like overnight.
In the a.m., pour the water out, get a bottle cleaner (like a baby bottle cleaner) or one of those dish scrubbers that you can prefill with soap, and fill the sink again with hot, soapy water. Wash, rinse, scrub, wash, rinse, scrub, rinse. Turn upside down into a dish dryer, and let air dry.
hot water...and leave it open for a few days..To make it sparkline clean, add pieces of newspaper to the hot water, cover the flask and shake. Repeat until noticable difference.
Well I am afraid I will have to tell you to use, Vinegar and baking soda, but with a twist, first you use quarter cup of White Vinegar, pour into flask then put the cap back on your flask then shake the vinegar all around for about a minute, then leave this mixture in there for a few hours, make sure the vinegar is undiluted though. Okay then you take about two teaspoons of Baking soda put in flask then add boiling hot water; about half cup then cap your flask again, shake a little then leave overnight, then pour out and rinse with warm water, okay the odor should be gone, now to get out the tea stain, you must use Twenty mule team borax and a little baking soda mixed then scrub out with a baby bottle brush if you have one or use some brush that you can fit in there then scrub this will remove the tea stain, I do all this method myself and have had no problems and also drink tea as much as the next person, give it a try and see how it works out for you., Remember always rinse with warm or hot water after doing this treatment, and after doing all this and the odor still has not dissipated crumple up a piece of newspaper and stick it in there over night then in the morning just take it out and rinse it will be clean and odor free.
Use boiling hot water with dishwasher tablets and leave for a couple of hours.
Clorox is your best bet!
Two suggestions:

1. Salt - just put some salt crystals into the dry flask and put the lid on - should get rid of the smell after a bit.

2. To get rid of stains, denture cleaner is good - can be used to clean tea stains out of mugs but check before using on thermos - I don't know if it'll do anything bad to the thermos.
