How do i remove whiteboard marker ink from my shirt?

There's a solution sold at office supply stores by the whiteboard markers. The solution is used to thoroughly clean any left over marker residue off the whiteboards. It usually sold in a small little spray bottle. At work, if we get marker on our clothes, we spray on the solution and let it dry. When I get home, I take the garment and rinse the stain (or where the stain was) with water. Then, I spray it with a lot of Shout and throw it in the hamper until I do laundry. Before I throw it in the washing machine, I spray it once more with Shout if I can find where the stain was. I'm not sure if this method works on all fabric types, but I know it works on cottons.
