I go with my daughter's nose: She prefers Gain detergent and Gain dryer sheets. The ads for Gain are right when they say that the fresh smell stays with the clothes for a very long time. Gain is also more affordable than Tide or some of the other big names.
I like the combination of Era detergent and Downy Simple Pleasures Lavender and Vanilla liquid fabric softener. My laundry smells sooo fresh and clean...and it holds that clean smell for a long time.

any lenor concentrated...and comfort concentrated ...the others to watered down and when clothes are dry the smell goes ..with concentrated the smell stays and can be smelt on ya clothes all day long
I use All Free and Clear detergent and Downy fabric softener most of the time. All and Gain also make nice smelling fabric softener. On the rare occasions that I buy a scented detergent, I make sure to buy the same scent of fabric softener so I'm not mixing fragrances. I also try to change fragrances once in a while because it seems like I get used to one and can't really smell it after a while.

Its less expensive than Tide and does an equally good job. They have the matching fabric softener AND dryer sheets too!

The best by far, in my little oppinion, is Gain Expressions Apple Mango-Tango!
It smells fresh for weeks!! I can always tell if my husband has thrown a clean shirt down just by smelling it..
