I'm allergic to the enzemes in biological washing powder, does anyone know what these enzemes are?

Question:

Answers:
I have to disagree slightly with the answer given above, enzymes are actually proteins made up of amino acids that facilitate a chemical reaction, naturally in cells. Synthetic enzymes are used in biological washing powder to breakdown the fat and protein molecules that make up some of the dirt on your clothes.

To avoid an allergic reaction try a non-biologogical washing powder such as Fairy non-bio.

Good luck and hope this helps.

Enzymes are bacteria.
'Biological' washing powders contain enzymes to help break down stains and dirt in fabrics.
The enzymes in biological products are similar to ones that we have in our intestines! They digest
proteins and fats and have to be used at a low temperature or they stop working. If all traces of
biological powder are not removed from clothes in the rinse cycle then it has been suggested that
the enzymes can start to break down broken skin in the same way that they would do a stain. This
would then lead to skin irritation. However, there is some evidence to show that there may be little
difference between biological and non-biological products when comparing the amount of skin
reactions to either product. There are people with eczema who tolerate biological products and
who have reactions to non bios, as well as vice versa.
