Trying to finish my laundry, need help unclogging my washer.?
Question:I was recently doing laundry and noticed that my washer stopped and would not drain the water inside. Help!!
Answers:
There are two main types of washing machines. Without knowing which type you have, it's difficult to answer your question.
If you haven't been doing anything different with your washer and this suddenly happened, I would bet you have a faulty wigwag solenoid. Particularly if the washer stopped agititating or spinning. It's a twenty dollar part, but labor is where it will hurt.
Here are some things that may be wrong with your washer, based on the info you posted:
Washer doesn't drain:
Possible causes -
Drain hose too high - check hose and reposition
drain hose kinked - check and unbend as necessary
Suds blocking drain - turn off washer, bail out suds and hot water, add cold water to washer and use less detergent
Tub drain blocked - refer to manual to locate tub drain, then clear it. You may be able to find a manual online.
Pump blocked or impeller jammed - refer to manual and inspect
Self-cleaning filter or trap clogged - refer to manual to locate and inspect
Timer Faulty - test timer and timer motor
Wigwag faulty - test wigwag solenoids
To test the timer or wigwag solenoid, you'll need a multitester or continuity tester.
I hope this helps. Washers and dryers are pretty simple machines. If you're not handy with tools, I would bribe a friend to do it! It cost me eighty bucks to have the wigwag in my washer replaced years ago. Since then, my husband has done it. I just diagnose the problems.
I hope this helps.
