What can you use to clean out a garbage disposal that smells?
Question:
Answers:
Toss lemon peels down there and grind them up. Also, fill an ice cube tray with a mix of half vinegar and hald water. Freeze them and the throw a few in the disposal and turn on. The ice sharpens the blade and the vinegar takes care of the smells.
Bleach, and lots of it!! (but try and use the citrus type one as it smells a bit better than regular bleach).
I always throw orange and lemon peels down and grind them up.makes it smell so good!
Look in the household cleaning materials section of a supermarket - they have little pill-type things for that purpose, just drop one in once in a while and it deodorizes the disposal. I'm too cheap to buy 'em myself, so I put orange peels or lemon rinds through the grinder from time to time. Use lots of cold water whatever else you do--follow the pill-package directions anyway.
un plug it.
Reach inside, and clean off the top part - the rim underneath the sink. put in baking soda, let sit for a while, then run it with water.
I buy the foaming deodorizers that they sell at the grocery store or Wal*Mart. I bought a box of four deodorizer packets & they are very easy to use. It leaves the disposal smelling lemony scented.
Baking soda, a dishwasher tablet, or a slice of lemon should remove the odor.
Try 1/2 C of baking soda, followed by 1 C vinegar. It'll fizz for awhile. Rinse with cold water and then grind citrus peels in your disposal, especially lemon.
put some orange or lemon rinds down the disposal and run with lots of cold water
drop in a lemon and run the disposal. Extra stinky? Use a couple.
