Do you ever wash your non-stick pans in the dishwasher?
Question:Seems like you're not supposed to but I can't remember why. Is the water too hot? That makes no sense since you boil water in them when they're on the stove. Is it the chemicals in the detergent?
Answers:
Dish washing detergent is caustic and etches the surface of the pan. It does the same to fine crystal over time too, by the way.
The detergent is also a desiccant and dries out the oils and plasticizers in your cookware. (yes, such exist to keep things plastic and supple)
the pan wont be non stick if u do
Yes, by mistake. Sometimes when I have visitors and dirty pots and pans in the sink, I stick them in the dishwasher out of sight. Not realizing the dishwasher was full and someone digitally pre-set it to cycle, the small saute pan and a 3 QT pot went through the longest wash cycle. I didn't discover it until hubby emptied it and then I saw little white chunkies caught on the inside and outside surfaces. We hand washed them again, but these were the circulon type and it was really difficult to get out the stuff from in between the circles. Plus, from then on the non-stick performance was never the same and we eventually purchased a new non-stick anondized set. I think PeterO above me is correct, the dishwasher soap etched the non-stick surface.
i have put mine in the dishwasher with no problems. I don't do it all the time. They are still non-stick.
No, we don't. Even though some manufacturers say it is okay, they still recommend that you hand wash them. Dishwashing detergent can be VERY strong, particularly if you use the tablets. I've seen it take the paint off of glasses numerous times. We use a very mild detergent that is non-toxic, but we still hand wash our non-stick pans.
I put mine in the dishwasher all the time. Maybe that's why they never last. Interesting.
never- they are easy enough to clean without cluttering up the dishwasher.
its not the best choice. its best to wash them separately and let them dry. high temps and water setting in teh pans r not good for them
