Do you have a home remedy to keep your kitchen sink from cloggin?

Question:I know some people use a combo of salt and baking soda, but how much and how to you use it?

Answers:
baking sod and vinegar works well also. It also will deodorize the drain. Put 1 cup baking soda in drain and pour 1/2 cup vin. into drain, let sit and foam will clean for about 10 min. Repeat if needed.

Get yourself a suction "Gizmo" from a hardware store.Just place over plughole. Pump a few times , and Voila! Clears sink. Also get yourself peelings drainer or filter for plughole, then it won't happen.
What my Mom does is put baking soda in the sink and pours vinegar over it. It seems to work, but be careful how much you use...can get messy! LOL (remember the volcanos made in elementary science fairs??)
Don't pour gease down the drain. When it cools, it thickens and clogs up the drain. I pour bleach in the drain, let it sit for a few minutes, then wash it down with some hot water. If it's a really bad clog a plunger will take care of the rest.
I don't put banana skins down the
garbage disposal.
Should clogging occur, I use Draino.
Once a month pour 1 cup of bleach down drain and do not use for at least 1 hr - Flush with boiling water. However, if it is a mineral deposit (as it usually is here in Texas) flush with vinegar and do not use for at least 1 hour.

The plumber told me to pour 1 cup of salt down the kitchen drain every week. Haven't had any problems since I started doing it. It is purely preventative---it won't unclog your drains.
DRAIN PLUG. Get one with holes and tip it slightly so water drains but stops the gunk; put gunk into garbage can.
'CLEAN' DISHES PRIOR. Stuff on plates, bowls, etc... paper towel into garbage can & not your sink.
GARBAGE DISPOSAL: never grease (if happens immediately follow with some dish liquid & hot water) - - such as from boiling weiners, boloney, etc... Also, no bananna peels, shredded/scrappings of carrot, celery, etc.. or rinds from watermelon - - put into garbage can.
MONTHLY. do your preference of drain cleaner of bleach (careful with bleach - - other chemicals later added could produce a T O X I C reaction to people), salt or drain cleaner. These will also depend on material of basic pipes & some stuff may corroude the pipes.
I do this once a month to all my drains (basement, toilet, tub).. Buy a few gallons of bleach and pour down all the drains at night before bed.. Just remember to flush the toilets before you use them... Dangerous fumes will emit. Also, my plumber said, Diet Coke works really well too.! Draino destroys pipes and is dangerous if it comes back through the drain ! It's also expensive and it ruins stainless steel pipes/sinks.
