Can I hand wash this item that's labeled dry clean only...?

Question:I have a bedspread that's labeled dry clean only...I'm wondering if I can wash on the gentle cycle in the washing machine. It's part linen. Thanks in advance for an advice you can offer.

Answers:
I have hand washed or gentle cycle washed in cold many items that say dry clean only. I do recommend dry cleaning an item once before you try it. You can also buy some Dryel for home dry cleaning. I have heard it works well, and I have some, but I have not used mine yet. It depends on the color fastness of the item as well, always test on an inconspicuous spot first to see how it does. Make sure you hang to dry as they dryer could distort the shape after washing. I hope this helps. Good luck!

they sell home dry cleaning kits in the store called Dryelle. You pop in a cleaner sheet and the clothing into your dryer. Usually when you toss something that's dry clean only in the wash it shrinks.
sometimes you can get away with it, but sometimes it can ruin the piece beyond repair. I would follow the directions.
If it were a small item I would say yes- hand wash and use woolite. Your machine may snag and distort the fabric on a bedspread...but then again if you need a reason to buy another one- and you want to wreck it- try washing it.
I think that you'd better not try...the bedspread might shrink or it 's colour might run.
Part Linen? No; don't even try. It will be permanently wrinkled from the spin cycle.
You can try it on a wool cycle in your washing machine, but since it's part linen, it might crumple like mad and it would take an awful lot of ironing..
I have washed small Linen items (garments) and they come out fine--just don't put in dryer! But a large bedspread is another thing. I would follow the recommended laundering instructions, especially if it is a prized possession.
