How does a person remove mold from brick?
Question:Mold is growing on the brick around the outside of my house. What can I do to get rid of it?
Answers:
Get a garden sprayer and mix 1 cup bleach to 1 gallon water. Spray it on the wall and wait about 20 minutes. Rinse with a garden hose. You may need to do this a couple times to get it all but nothing kills mold like bleach. Stay away from any acid cleaners - they will damage the mortar.
You might try sealing the bricks with an acrylic sealer used on concrete driveways - that should prevent new mold from appearing.
Good Luck!
P.S. Vinegar is an acid - not good for mortar. Just because it's 'natural' doesn't make it harmless!
Wire brush and some water with bleach should kill it - or you could power wash.
Either go to local home depot sort of store or apply elbow grease, or hire said elbow grease.
If you want to go a natural route, use vinegar. It's rather inexpensive if you buy it by the gallon, and it will not only kill the mold; it will inhibit its ability to return quickly.
Use it full strength, with a stiff-bristled brush, or not too stiff of a wire brush, and let it dry. Don't rinse it off with water or anything else. While it will smell pretty vinegary at the time, the smell will leave as it dries, and since you will be outdoors, it won't be so pungent anyway.
My grandmother used to use this on the plaster inside walls of a bedroom that was in a shaded and cold corner of the house. Of course she used a cloth rather than brush, but it worked great.
It might be something besides mold however, like a moss/fungus? You might want to check with a garden nursery first, and find out what they think.
Best of success, Lili
