Does drying your clothes by sunheat shrink them?

Question:Someone in the family though it was a smart idea to put my clothes outside on the deck and dry them that way. Would this shrink them more than if I put them in the dryer or will it barely make a noticeable difference?

Answers:
Sunheat only shrinks leather, not clothes. If you are concerned with fading, turn them wrong side out first. In fact, your dryer will shrink your clothes more! I've been sundrying clothes since I was on my own and my mother dried clothes outside even in winter!

i don't think so. after time, the colors will fade, but that's as bad as it'll get. the benefits outweigh the downfalls, in my opinion!
No, not at all, they shrink more in the dryer than in the sunheat.
Hello!
Actually if they stretched them after washing them and then placed them out side to dry they don't shrink. The only thing that happens is your clothes become a little stiff.

This is actually a better way to dry your clothes. You save a ton of money on electric or quarters if you go to the laundry mat. Plus time. It is easy to wash and get almost everything hung to dry. Then you just go about your day, then towards the end of the day go out and bring your dry clothes back in.

Enjoy your weekend
Drying your clothes outside in the fresh air does not shrink them. If jeans are a bit too short, you can stretch while wet, and hang outside to maintain length (same for width). Dryer shrinks clothes to a small degree, but not hanging them outside.
no it doesn't matter the dryer can do the same
Nope they just smell better, how do you think people once dried their clothes when there was no machinery for it.
the sun doesnt shrink clothes... it will fade them... and if you hang them from a line... the weight of the clothes especially when wet will stretch them some so you may end up with points on your shirts and such...

turn them inside out to avoid discoloring them . use fabric softener to lessen the stiffness from drying outside...

you get the fresh air smell and save on electricity
Clothes typically shrink the washer, not the dryer. I dry most of my clothes outside, then "fluff them up" for a few minutes in the dryer. Unless you live in an urban area with air that smells bad, your clothes will smell like fresh sunshine and they will last much longer. It is best, however, not to dry black or very dark clothing in the direct sun as this can cause fading.
