What's the best way to get butter stains out of a microwave?
Question:My mother in law decided to leave a bag of popcorn in the microwave unattended. This wouldn't have been a problem if she used the "popcorn" button to do the popping as my microwave has an auto pop feature that works great. However, she punched in 5:00 and walked off. By the time she realized what she'd done, the smoke was already rolling out the cracks. The microwave still works fine, but it has a brown tint to the inside. We've scrubbed it down but have not been able to get it looking anywhere near is white as it used to.
Can anyone recommend a cleaner or some other way to get it looking like it used to?

Have you tried softscrub or baking soda?
It is not butter stains. It is smoke damage to the microwave. My mom did this same thing with some hot rolls that had oil in them. It will not come off, as we tried everything.
I'd spray it really well with 409 and let it soak for 15 mins. If that doesn't work, try a good scouring pad like scotch brite or SOS pads. Be careful to make sure you aren't removing the paint too. If neither of these work, it is probably there for good. Tell your MIL to be more careful. I've seen popcorn start on fire when it was left in there for that long. Not to mention the awful smell that takes forever to go away.
