If you want a 100% cotton shirt to shrink, is it the drying that shrinks it? or the washing?
Question:Will it still shrink if i just run it under cold water and put it in the drier? because i want it to shrink quickly. Or does it need soap?
Answers:
Clothes shrink in the washer, not the dryer. However, you can ruin a 100% cotton shirt with too-hot water and a too-hot dryer. Be careful! If the garment says "cold water", you will probably just have to live with it being a little too big.
its the drying, but does cotton shrink fast? I'm not sure if it does.
Warm water, and drying.
Use hot water and a hot dryer - no need for soap if you are in a hurry.
Sorry, but I disagree with Glamorous. 50 yrs of doing laundry tells me that a hot water wash does most of the shrinking. If you ad a hot dryer to that you get a little more shrinkage yet.
Wash the shirt in hot water w/soap & dry in a hot dryer.
Wash it in HOT HOT water. Then dry it on the highest/ hottest setting on the drier. It shrinks in the washer with hot water but the drier helps.
The soap has nothing to do with it. As everyone else has told you, the heat factor makes a difference. Agitation in the washer also plays a big role. So use hot water, heavily soiled cycle and hot dryer.
the dryer!
its the drying. its the hot that makes it shrink. you know its made from a plant and doesnt heat make plants shrivel up sometimes? yah if you want it to shrink fast, maybe put it in HOT water then put it in the drier. it depends how much you want it to shrink tho...
