Can carpet powder make your carpet stink?
Question:I put the good-smelling powder stuff on my carpet every time I vacuum, which is almost every day. For a couple of hours, it smells great. But lately it's started smelling kind of stuffy. And the more I vacuum, the worse it smells! Could the carpet powder be causing this? And what can I do about it?
Answers:
Some times the powders clog up the vacuum. Check under the vacuum ,pull out the rotor bar(with the brushes) and check that there is nothing clogging the intake hole. If it has a removable hose, take that off as well and look to see if there is hair, or whatever that might be clogging that up. I run a (this might sound weird, but it works) a tape measure through the hose to clear any clogs in it. After everything checks out ok, try sprinkling some Baking Soda on your carpet with a little Cinnamon added to it. let it set on the carpet for about 15 min . Then vacuum it up. That neutralise's any bad smells in the carpet, that have been collecting.
It should stink at all. It should smell for awhile and then not smell at all, but not stink. Maybe your carpet is getting old. Or if you have pets it could be reacting to that. Check out this website. It has free recipes for carpets to deoterize it to make it smell good using essential oils.
carpet powder breaks down the fibers of your carpet and causes wear and decomposition. Get carpets cleaned and quit using powder.
I stopped using that powder stuff for the same reason. I occasionally now use the stuff you can spray on and not have to vacuum up! I just want all wood floors!
