How do you get an olive oil stain out of a shirt?
Question:
Answers:
Put some Dawn dishsoap on 20 minutes before you wash it. If you have already dried it, however, you have likely "set" the stain. If this is the case, make a paste of Dawn and baking soda and apply it to the stain. let it sit overnight and wash as ususal.
get good soap and scrub it out
I wash it six times and then buy a new shirt...works every time.
wash it with bleach
dawn dish detergent.. unless you have already thrown it in the dryer.. then your screwed.
Wipe a good quantity of paint thinner, mineral spirits, on it, it will dissolve the oil, then you just pre-spot and wash as usual, don't dry until the spot is gone though.
Put a few drops of Dawn dishwashing liquid on the shirt and rub it in good. Wash in the warmest water that is safe for the fabric. If the stain doesn't come out the first time, repeat the process. Dawn will remove oily stains even if the shirt has been washed and put in the dryer. Good luck!
saw this on TV just this morning..they say to rub in some of that liquid hand sanitizer. worth a try.
dry cleaner
I use Stain Stick and then soak in two scoops of Biz in the washer. Air Dry and then check. If that doesn't work, I use Oxyclean which will work every time. I have been using Biz for years but the newer oxygen products are top rated by Consumer Reports.
If you have already washed and machine dried the shirt, then go directly to the Oxyclean soak. Dawn would be my third choice as it is a good greaser cutter but isn't designed for clothing.
I use any dish soap that I have on hand whenever I have a greasy spot on my clothes and it works like a charm. Just rub some on the stain and wash like usual. Good luck, hope this helped.
Spray and Wash may do the trick. Spray it on the stain. Rub it in thoroughly about an hour before washing.
