Wash them with your soap plus 1 cup of baking soda.Use hot water too. If you can dry them out on a clothes line in the sun that will help too. Always make sure they are thoroughly dry when you put them away. You could also put a box of baking soda in your linen closest.
Your dryer is probably not drying them completely and they are mildewing. Try drying them longer or twice.
Wash them in warm water, put in the dryer immediately, and make sure they dry completely. If they sit around too long, they get musty smelling. I don't like to use fabric softener for my towels as it decreases the absorbency. However, you may want to use a little bit the first time or two to help eradicate the smell that is lingering. After the next wash or 2, they shouldn't smell anymore.
Try using a fabric softener (personally, I like Purex's After the Rain) in the rinse cycle and make sure you clean the lint trap on your dryer for proper drying.
Maybe your washing too many at a time, mine smell when my hubby puts too many in a load.Or maybe, where you store them doesn't get any "air" so they end up musty?
try using a little bleach very little.
Tide. It is about the only product left on the market that will actually clean laundry. The other stuff just does not work any more.
