Best way to clean ceiling fan?
Question:What is the best way to clean my ceiling fan? It has lights, etc. I live in a rental and would never own one on purpose because cleaning them is so annoying! lol

Vacuum up all the loose dust you can with the vacuum cleaner hose. Then using paper towels and an all purpose cleaner or windex, wet the towel and wipe down the fan "wings" and any other area you want!
There is actually a brush that is made specifically for ceiling fans. Check at Walmart.
I sooooo agree with you about fans. I'm trying to eliminate them from my life. I've bought the brush to clean the blades, but unfortunately it falls in the same category as a feather duster...it just spreads the dust around instead of picking it up. The best way I've found is to stand on my kitchen stool and clean the blades with a slightly damp washcloth. While I'm up there I dust the lights and anything else that needs it. Make sure cleaning the ceiling fans is the very first thing you do on cleaning day as the dust that escapes your rag will land on the floor or furniture beneath it. About twice a year I take the globes off the lights and run them through the dishwasher...More work than they are worth for sure...
I would get a ladder and then use the ladder to help you clean it. Dust it first. If you have any wood on the fan use Murphy's oil soap or something safe for wood. Windex or water and vinagar works ok for glass.

They sell a special tool at Home Depot that is like and oval brush that you just go over the blades. It also has a long pole so you don't have to get up the ladder. Just look in the lighting section of any big home improvement store or Walmart.
