Stains on formal dress...HELP!?
Question:My daughter almost cried (she's 14) when she saw something that looks like orange soda or makeup on the front of her dress. The "semi-formal' dance is tomorrow night! The dress is cream colored, 100% polyester. It says dry-clean only.
We are of limited funds and this $80 dress is far beyond our budget so this is very special. I cannot afford to have it dry-cleaned right now. The stain isn't very big.
Answers:
If it is polyester, just try Shout. Soak it in some warm water first, blot in the Shout gently so it doesn't make a bigger spot, or work in the Shout with a soft toothbrush. The key is to take your time to carefully and delicatly work the spot out.
if you have Oxyclean mix it into a THIN paste and using a wash cloth lightly rub...then after the stain is gone use a damp wash cloth and lightly rub to get any dried Oxyclean off. I swear by it.
I was told by a professional seamstress a few years ago that most polyester dresses are ok to wash. She put wedding dresses she alters in the washing machine. I took a cue from her and now I wash all my dry clean only items in my washer.
You can wash Polyester material. Wash by hand in cold water, To remove the stain, use a little of your own dish washing liquid, soak in cold water add the liquid & rub in with your finger tips. leave for a few min“s, then rinse out with cold water. Sure it will come out. Hang the dress on a coat hanger , best in the open air
I would try some oxi clean. It will tell you how to use it as a liquid stain remover on the container.
