Why does my newer clothes washer smell like meldew?

mine does as well, yours a front loader? I find that if I dry the heavy rubber seal around the opening as well as the glass on the door, I don't have that problem

It may just be the new smell. Run a full cycle in hot water with 2 cups vinegar. That will absorb the odors and help clean the line.
Did you get one of the new front loading washing machines? I recently switched from a top-loading to a front loading washer and it seems like the front loader doesn't completely dry out on the door and around the rubber. I've started using a paper towel to dry it off before closing it because I hate mildew and the smell is even worse.
