New Kitchen Sponges - supposed to be oily?

Question:So the last time I bought some new kitchen sponges I noticed they were a little oily when I opened the package so I tossed it, I had some old ones still so it was no big deal.

I finally bought some more new ones today, a different brand, and I noticed the same thing.

So...are kitchen sponges supposed to be oily when new?

Answers:
Yes

they usually have a wetting agent applied to make them seem, plump and pliable when you open the package. (people don't like to buy dried, squished things, even if all they are is sponges.)
its soap lol
I think so.the ones I bought were also oily.
