Why do my mats smell of cats wee?
Question:They have just been cleaned,i left the them in the living room to dry out because of the weather and came down thismorning at it reaks of cats wee.May i point out i have no cat ,no cat flap,no windows open etc.

Some cleaning products have odd smells. There is one that smells of fish too. I can only suggest you clean them again and use a different product.

Don't they have rubber backing? It sounds like they have mildew or you left them outside long enough for a male cat to mark his territory. I just throw my non rubber backed ones in the washer and dryer.
You may have to get new ones if white vinegar and another wash or hose down won't get rid of the smell.
if you got cats, then the cats are pissing on it. if you dont have cats, then your neighbors cats are pissing on it, if your neighbor doesnt have cat, then your neighbor is pissing on it.
It is probably smelling of damp- you should have left it to dry so that air could go around it- the smell is coming from the underpart of the rug- try hanging it out on the line ( underside out to the air) that may get rid of the smell-
or try spraying it with white vinegar to get rid of the smell then air dry it.
Was your rug second hand? is so then maybe a previous owner had cats and cleaning the carpet has released the smell?? if so than the above will still apply
The shop they came from, or warehouse probably has a feral cat problem.
In other words they were wee'd on before you had them.
Ammonia. It's a good old fashioned remedy.
