How do you take off a painted number on a Jersey?

Question:I'm in a flag football team and I bought some jerseys with a number 15 painted on. I'm trying to remove it with Acetone (nail polish removal) but its not working. Its coming off but theres got to be a better and faster way to do this. Please any help will be greatly appreciated.

Iron it inside out, with a towel under it. The warmth from the iron should help to loosen it. Test an area first. You don't want to melt the fabric.

just make the new numbers patches like rugby uniforms, just a big square white patch with the new numbers on them. you can then iron on tranfer the new numbers on.
