How the heck do I get rid of those damn fruit flies? Those tiny little flies that land on your nose and food??
Question:They are killing me, seriously! I have a clean house so I have no idea where they come from! I don't leave fruit out to rot and I vacuum enough where there isn't any dust. Anyone have any ideas?

They are probably not fruit flies, but a type of drain fly. We have them, too, and they are VERY common though few people even know about them. They look just like fruit flies (to the naked eye), but are much more annoying. They live and breed in all your sink and tub drains in the scum film (so are potentially a health risk).
The best and safest way to control them is to use a product that contains a non-harmful bacteria that eats the scum these flies feed on and breed in. The one I use is called DF 5000. The added benefit is that it also helps unclog your pipes. It has no fumes, is non-toxic and has a mild, pleasant odor.
There are several different pests called drain flies, one that looks exactly like a fruit fly (Phoridae) and another that's a little larger and fuzzy (the moth fly). We actually had both. But it's the phorid fly that flies around your face (and near my computer screen).
I just read that in the southern part of the USA, where fire ants are a problem, that a species is being introduced that will also lay it's eggs inside a fire ant, helping to control them. That may be why they are becoming a bigger problem insides houses, restaurants and other buildings.
i had the same problem.
all i did was not leave any food out at all.
not even bread or cereals.
they will eat any thing that they can.
Do you have house plants? Some little bugs that look just like tiny fruit flies can live in the dirt of your house plants. I only know this because the restaurant where my exhusband used to work was having a horrible problem with what they thought were fruit flies. After calling an exterminator, they found out they were coming from their potted plants.
Fruit flies a are seasonal problem most often being severe in the late summer and early fall. Sometimes they seem to take over a home or other building. They are small, quick and if you look closely are almost an orange color. They are seen on and near fruit, vegetables, and trash containers. Populations increase quickly in the fall when fruits and vegetables are ripening in homes, garages and gardens. There is a relationship between outdoor trash, dumpsters and indoor populations. When it gets too cool for these pests outdoors, they dwindle indoors also. Removal or refrigeration of fruits and vegetables can establish control. Dirty trashcans and dumpsters should be removed also from garages or cleaned often.
put 1/2-1 cup of Apple cider Vinigar in a custard dish along with 3-4 drops of dish saop. I put it on my countertop over night.
gosh i know!! they are every where and im a clean freak!! we have a major outbreak of these suckers here at work right now.they are really annoying.
a good old newspaper a some patience, believe me i,m sitting here fly free at the minute waiting for the new arrivals tomorrow
They could be coming from any hose plants - I use Schulz
They are called Gnats they live off the fresh soil and dead roots from your household plant´s. Best way to rid them is to dry the plant´s out for a week. Even better put them outside , they will dry quicker this way. Also as they look for water to drink put the stopper your sink at night
