Are gas dryers supposed to take much longer to dry a load than electric?
Question:I just moved and bought a gas dryer. I have always had electric in the past, so I have nothing to compare it to. The few loads I have washed are taking upwards of two hours to dry - regular load, not heavy items. Have checked vent, etc., all is good. Just wondering if gas dryers typically take a lot longer.
Answers:
Something is not right. Gas dryers dry a lot faster than electric. Did you check the vent on the outside of the house? We had birds build a nest in ours one time. If it's a brand new dryer, perhaps some packing material got into the vent on the dryer itself and blocking the air flow. Good luck! You'll like your new dryer once it's working properly.
if they are taking longer make sure your lint vent is not clogged up
this is only my experience,,they are normally faster and less expensive....
First thing to check is the vent and filters. Is the vent hose kinked? The tube clogged? If not it could be that the heating element is going out and that the heat itself isnt getting as high as it should so its taking longer to dry the clothing. I thought my dryer was going bad and when i pulled it away from the wall I found that the exhaust vent hose was kinked and keeping it from venting properly. Not only does this slow down the drying process but it does pose a fire hazard.
I agree with you. My electric dryer was much quicker. I don't know how long they are "supposed" to take, but mine usually takes two hours or so.
Gas dryers are faster at drying. You have a clogged exhaust or your dryer is not getting hot.
