My white shirt is soaked in mud - should I wash @ dispose it?
Question:I just came back from a 5-day camp, of which included some mud soaking action. Worst of all, we were only allowed to wear white, so you can imagine my horror. My shirt & socks are now wood brown. Savable or straight into the garbage?
Answers:
Depending upon the composition of the mud * you can easily save most items that are soiled by pre-soaking prior to washing. Feel free to add bleach if you want since the items are white.
*If the mud happened to have a lot of clay in it you might not be able to completely remove all of the stain
Do not soak, or wash in hot water as that can set the stains, instead try cold or warm water. Also Do not dry the items until you have the stains completely removed as that too can set the stains.
You should put the least amount of water in the washer. Put in a full cap of Era - it is protein based and removes most organic stains. Put in clothes, agitate it and let it soak for an hour. You can also bleach if you want to, just don't soak in the bleach, it will ruin your fabric. You should also run it through 2 rinse cycles. That is what I have to do to our clothes when we come back from the lake. Good Luck!
