How do you get dried up crayon off of leather seats?
Question:My girlfriend has a daughter who left some crayons in the backseat and they melted. What can i use to get it off of the leather seats without harming it?
Answers:
Crayon on Upholstery
To get crayon marks off upholstery, first scrape excess crayon off with a dull-edge knife or metal spoon. Spray with WD-40 and let stand a few minutes. With a small, stiff bristle brush work crayon stain and wipe with paper towels. Respray with WD-40 and apply liquid dishwashing detergent on the sprayed area; work in with the brush and wipe stain away with a damp sponge. If stain remains, repeat the procedure. =)
I had that happen and used a hair dryer to heat it up and a damp rag to wipe it off - takes a little time but works.
You can try this: take a hairdryer and use the warm setting to melt the crayon, then gently scrape the crayon off. Use something like a stiff piece of cardboard to scrape with--something that won't scrape off the leather. Then I would try Goo Be Gone to get the last bit of crayon film off. NOTE: I have not tried this myself, so proceed with caution!
Try a "Magic Eraser". You can get one at any grocery store for about $2. Those things work wonders and I dont think it will harm the leather. Be sure to read the warnings, if there are any, just to be sure.
Press about three paper lunch sacks or newspaper and a washcloth over that, over the spot and apply a hot dry iron to it and press for 30 seconds to a minute. the crayon should melt and the paper bag should catch it and all the grease. Repeat if neccessary. I used this technique on my wedding dress for some melted candle. You can't tell it was ever there.
