Any idea of how to clean the water lines of a used frig?
Question:I just got a used frig off of Craigs list. It is only one year old but, has been stored . . . now that it is in my house and clean it occured to me that I may need to clean the water lines for ice and water. Any idea on how to do that? It never occured to me until now there could be old stale water or even mold in there.
Please help.
Answers:
Easiest way is to allow the fridge to make ice cubes and run water out of the door for about three days. Throw away the ice and water for the first three days. Generally enough water has run through it to clean it out if there was anything in it. However, if you still notice a smell in the ice or water, you'll have to replace the tubes and/or the ice/water maker. Hopefully, it will resolve itself by simply using it and throwing away the ice and water for three days. You may have to buy some ice cubes and bottled water for those three days, but it's cheaper than calling a repairman if this works, and it usually does work unless the frig was just filthy.
