Cooking odours linger when cooking strong foods like fish or fried onions..?

Question:Can anyone recomend a way to get rid of strong cooking odours. I always cook with the extractor hood on full power, but the smell seems to linger for a day or more. I have tried opening the windows and doors but the smell seems to come back when they are closed. Are there any good deodourisers or air fresheners on the market in the UK, would prefer not to use aerosols, something I can plug in would be better.

Answers:
Have a parsley plant in your kitchen, and wash your hands with a little fresh lemon juice to remove odours.

Oust hair freshner gets rid of the smell quickly
Have you tried using vinegar or baking soda? I use both in a lot of my cleaning. I especially use the soda on the baking dishes I use for fish, since it's effective in getting residue off, and I seldom notice an odor afterwards.
boil half a lemon
there are natural remedies for this such as half a lemon in a bowl of water or a bowl of bi-carbonate of soda, these should absorb smells. Failing that try an air freshener that destroys odors rather than covers them up. Also, cleaning all your surfaces and the tiles behind the cooker can get rid of smells as splashes etc. can be the cause. I clean my surfaces with half vinigar half water which seems to get rid of cooking smells brilliantly and the vinigar smell does go away completely when it dries.

Forget the plugs and sprays..just place a small cup of ammonia on your counter and let it soak up all the odors. You may have to change it once but thats all! Easy to remove pet odors, food odors, fishy smells etc..
buy some lemon aromatherapy oil and a oil burner this will elliminate any nasty smells and make your home smell really fresh and clean ( oil burners are used by lighting a tea light under the well of the burner add hot water to the well and add four drops of your oil)
hope this helps
Add a 1/2 a teaspoon of vanilla to whatever you are cooking. It doesn't change the flavor and your house won't smell afterwards. Especially onions and hot oil.
Best way I have found for this is, put a pot of water onto boil. Once it boiled turn down the heat and leave the water simmer, now add vinegar, leave to simmer for as long as it takes to rid the smell. Just remember to keep topping up the water
Try to locate a dealer that sells DYNAMIC air cleaners. They manufacture air cleaners that can be installed directly on furnaces or as stand along products. The system works great and removes odors from cooking, smoke etc.
I believe they are available in your country.
