What is going on with my irons?

Question:Last week I plugged in my iron, and brown stuff started coming out of the holes. It smelled like burnt marshmellows. Thinking one of my kids may have tampered with it, I started using an iron that I had sitting around. After a while the same thing started to happen. I have tried to fill the irons with fresh water, and steam out this gunk to no avail. Has this happened to anyone else?

Answers:
Marshmallows smell that way because sugar is caramelizing when they cook. I think someone has put soda in your iron. If this is the case, chuck it, they're not expensive but that favorite blouse might be, know what I mean?

It just might need cleaned out --you can buy cleaner for irons in household section at Walmart and i imagine other places also. Hope that helps!
it could be one of two things it could be the type of water u are using or it could be your electrical wiring sending to much current to the iron.
You need to use distilled water in them. Sounds like your water has too much iron or something in it. Probably from the house pipes.

Try cleaning the irons with vineger & water.
