Cleaning urine smell out of wheel chair pad?
Question:The pad on my husbands chair is some kind of foam in vinyl. It does not detach. The smell is killing all of us please help!!
Answers:
I had a child that wet the bed for years and the best urine smell remover is.. Listerine!! wipe down the pad once or twice with undiluted listerine or if it's really bad make a paste out of baking soda and listerine and let it sit for awhile before wiping it again with the listerine. It works the same way as it does on your breath, by killing the bacteria, no bacteria no odor. . this works better than even the products made to remove urine smells!
I would try a foam upholstery cleaner and then spray it with fabric deodorizer.
I would dissolve some baking soda in warm water and soak the pad in it. Of course this means you would need a second pad while this one dries.
If you don't want to purchase another pad, find a seamstress willing to put a zipper in the cover so you can clean the foam separately.
Take 1 cup of vinegar and 1 cup of water, and 1 tablespoon of dawn or what ever dish washing detergent you use, and mix together, wash down the pad let it stay on there for 15 minutes, and then rinse with cold water. Vinegar is a odor eater and should do the job.
Urine gone works great. Try a pet store- most of the urine cleaners will do well on animal and human odor - though the stains sometimes require additional work. Sounds more like you want the stink gone though
I would just get a new one.. they don't cost that much..
