Getting mold off Nylon?
Question:Does any body know a -good/safe- way to get mold off of Nylon and Nylon cloth? My fiance has a few REALLY expensive sleeping bags that we've been keeping in our apartment... and apparantly, we've got mold.. What I'm hoping for is a few tips on what is safe to use for cleaning the Nylon and how it is safe to dry it. Thanks :)

DampRid mades a mold/mildew remover and protector for fabrics that I have used on nylon without damage to the fiber. Most nylon can be safely washed, but since these are sleeping bags the fiber content of the filling may prevent you from putting them in the machines. You can use the DampRid to safely spot treat them and remove the mold. If you hit the spots with a blow dryer once the stains are removed you will dry it quicker all the way down to the fill. You can find this product in the cleaning aisle in the Lowes home improvement center.
If it's possible start by putting them in a washing machine. I know that's kinda obvious but you have to start somewhere. The smell is really the hard part, even when the fungus is dead it will still smell. I know, I've had the same problem. I had an item I put through the wash 3 times and it still smelled so I tossed it.
If you can put it in direct sunlight for as long as it takes to kill the mold. Sun will kill the spores.
There are sprays for fabrics but then if you can't wash it you have a bunch of spray on it.
If you can't get the smell out with sunlight, washing in detergent/color safe bleach, and mildicide you will have to throw them out. You can't use a oldy sleeping bag, it will make you sick.
Whit king bleach is a really good one for this it also destroys the bacteria spores, spray it on and leave about 5 minutes keep an eye on it . it will dissappear then rinse and wash as normal
