you people can be so rude! it isnt about affording its a hobby and 1 of mine ! i make my own soap because its fun and creative heres what you need lye, some tallow which is good quality fats or oils ( olive oil works great) and some natural fruits and stuff with borax or scented oils and such but you also need a thermometer to check temps and a measuring pitcher because you need to measure exactly the water to the tallow and such or its a flop .go to the book store and purchase a book titled " the complete soap maker" and have fun!! :) oh it so fun once you get the hang of it you will also make candle with breeze as it similar :) except instead of fats you would use wax

Lets see, boil down some animal fat untill its fully rendered, get some lye and mix thouroughly while heating, then take some...OR JUST GO TO THE STORE AND BUY SOME YOU CHEAP RETARD, SOAP IS CHEAP!
there are several different kinds of soap. i suggest the public library.. and perhaps a book store - look for old books in the do it yourself category.

I found some good recipes on the Internet. Think I typed in lye soap making. Or maybe just lye soap. I adapted some for laundry, dry skin, normal skin, oily skin, the information's all there.. Years ago I found a class at a vo-tech in NJ. Paid my money, drove 30 miles in a blizzard to get there, and the woman held up a can of Red Devil lye and said, "See? Here's the recipe right here." But I haven't seen the recipe on the lye can in years. All soap, if it isn't detergent, is lye soap, from Ivory to Dove, it's still lye soap. I Don't care what you retards have been told about how awful lye soap really is. One man refused to use my best complexion soap because he was convinced it had sand it it. Guess he was thinking about Lava.
Lulu had a great answer..the only thing i would like to add is that even though making soap is fun, please make sure to follow all the safety rules when making soap. Don't take any short cuts or anything like that.
