How to get grass and dirt off socks/clothes without clogging my washer?

Question:My husband is a landscaper, and I have tried many times to wash his socks in the washer. I shake off as much grass as I can, then throw them in the washer. But it always ends up on the next few batches of clothes, even after cleaning out my machine's drum and lint trap! He says we should just throw them out and buy new, but that gets expensive! Any ideas?

Answers:
Let them soak in a bucket first before washing them.

being in the same line of work i totally understand...if you have a laundry sink/tub, get a screen for the plug and hand wash them in the sink first..when your done pull the plug/strainer out, that is full of grass and crap...clean the grass out..they should be good to go in the washer.
Use the water hose on them. Hose his clothes off in the yard first
Take the clothing to the back pourch, shake off the excess dirt and stuff.
