How do I clean gasoline out of my purse?
Question:While I was filling my little Vespa at the gas station, the nozzle came loose and spilled some gas into the space underneath my seat where I put my purse and stuff I carry and the bottom part of my purse got gas all over it. It's not exactly soaked, but it's there and the articles inside (such as cellphone, keys, etc.) did not get any of it, but did get the smell. How can I wash my purse? Can I put it in the washing machine, even though there is a warning on the lid about not putting clothes with gas in them because the fumes are a fire hazard? Can I just wash it real well with soap and water in my sink? Please help!
Answers:
If it is a plastic or vinyl purse, go ahead with mild soap and water and let the inside dry. If it is a leather purse you will need to use saddle soap. You might try some upholstery cleaner for a fabric purse.
First of all, wash it with a solution of clear vinegar and water mixed about 1/2 to 1/2. When it dries, put baking soda on it. Leave it there overnight and then vacuum it off. Then put about a half cup of Baking soda and some kitty litter in the bottom of the purse and leave it there for about six weeks, this treatment will leave it clean and fresh and be as good as new again. Good Luck !
You should be able to wash with this small amount of gasoline and then line dry or sit in the sun. If you still smell the gas trying sitting your prse outside to air/sun fresh.
'ONLY YOU'' can decide whatcha wanna do about that.
Sorry but.... No more with that peurse. IU set my house on fire before doing that with soap and water.
you can put it in the washing machine but just wash it by itself, its just hard to get the smell of gas out of it, then you have to rinse out your washing machine
Please take this to a dry cleaner, if you want it cleaned correctly.
It will be worth the few dollars and it will be done right.
you have to soak it in the sink with bleach and spray it with fabreeze to get the smell out
