Does anyone know the best way to clean a cast iron griddle/grill?
Question:Went camping and placed the grill over the fire ring to cook. Tried to get most of the food off the grill part (reversible sides, smooth and grill) after cooking. Was too hot. When it cooled food is really tough to remove even after scrubing it with just about everything I have. Didn't know if I could use a grill brush or SOS. If anyone has suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.
Answers:
A good wire brush and hot, soapy water will work. Just be sure to season the griddle after cleaning or it is going to rust. Spray or rub with cooking oil and place into a warm oven for about 4 hours to let the oil soak into the metal. Don't wash with comet since cast iron will expand when heated and the comet will soak into the "pores" of the metal. Anything that is cooked on the griddle will taste like comet for a long time until it works that crap out.
Hi,
I have used comet before, I would let it soak for a little bit, then try some softscrub or comet. It is hard to hurt cast iron. Make sure to season it (rub it down with some veg oil) after its dry.
Ask home-depot specialists.
Run it through the self cleaning cycle in your oven.
Best thing I can suggest you use is this. Pour enough warm water /not hot. just to cover the stains. Now add a tablespoonful of baking powder/soda. leave for 10 min“s . once the stains have been removed , you can use a little dish washing detergent to clean. Dry well. The best way to keep your grill is to pour a little olive oil on the surface of the grill. and rub in with kitchen paper. this will stop your cast iron grill from rust. and make it so much easier to use the next time round
You could use SOS. Or, check around and see if maybe you could use something like easyoff oven cleaner. I hope this helps answer your question. Take care.
