I spilt some hot candle wax on my woollen sweater. How can I safely remove it??
Question:
Answers:
Fold a paper towel, place it over the wax, apply a heated iron to the paper towel & let sit for no longer than 10 seconds at a time! The heat will melt the wax & the paper towel will absorb it! This also works very well for carpet & other fabrics. Depending on the setting on the iron, you may be able to get away with leaving it on longer but be sure it is not touching the fabric directly!
Two options:
Take it to the drycleaners and it will be as good as new.
Sandwich the sweater between sheets of newspaper and iron. Replace the newspaper often until the melted wax ceases to show.
Get a piece of brown paper.
Put it on top of your sweater.
Turn your iron on wool programme and iron over the top of the brown paper.
The paper will absorb the candle wax.
You might need to do this a couple of times but it works.
My grandmother taught me this.
Get a brown paper bag and set your iron to "wool" or delicate" and then place the paper bag over the wax. Then iron
The brown paper bag will absorb the wax as the iron melts it. Its best to do this step a few times, just to make sure you get all of the waxc off.
Good lcuk!
Never iron it... Old wives tale. It will damage it and smoosh it in more. The best way is with eucalyptus oil. Dab it on the wax and leave it for a few minutes and clean. You may need to do it a few times. After it is off finish the stain off with a cloth dipped in methylated spirits and eucalyptus oil.
put sweater in a bag in the freezer and leave overnight - the wax will come off very easily
Heat up your iron, make it warm not HOT. then take paper towel and fold it, put the paper towel on top of the stain, place the iron on the towel a few Seconds, and remove, take the paper towel up and you will see the wax has melted on it, do this again and again using clean paper towel each time. When you have it all up then clean as usual.
