Try some white vinegar and water. It works great on pet stains.

peroxide gets poop my son plops on the floor as he is trying to potty train. It works great on spot removal
If you have a carpet cleaner machine (wet vacuum), you can use a teaspoon of laundry detergent in it. It works well, especially if you use the high efficiency detergent!
My friend ONLY uses laundry detergent with her shampooer. I've tried it and it works well. Don't use too much of it though.
Believe it our not Windex and Pine-sol work pretty good. They just require a little muscle in the scrubbing. But once your done it looks like a professional cleaned the carpet.
Stain remover for cloths (like shout)
YOU CAN USE WASHING POWDER, ANY KIND IS GOOD, WHAT HELPS ALSO WITH MAKING THE CARPET SMELL FRESH IS ADDING FABRIC SOFTNER TO THE WATER ALSO, IT ALSO HELPS THE CARPET DRY SOFT. IF YOU HAVE A NEARBY STORE THAT HAS A CLEANER CALLED (OXY BURST) ONLY COSTS $1.00 AT A WINN DIXIE THIS CLEANER IS REALLY REALLY GOOD IN GETTING OUT ANY STAINS
Things I Have Used In My Rug Shampooer
1. Laundry Soap
2. Pine-sol
3. Bleach, (And it did NOT fade the carpet)
4. Flea dip (Bad Dog!)
5. Downy (Made the house smell great)
6. Simple Green
7. Shampoo (I wouldn't use again, too much foam.)

With all these, I use the same amount as recommended of commercial rug shampoo.
Except for the shampoo they all worked great.
