Any suggestions please?
Question:I recently bought several pairs of jog pants from Primark.ok only £3 a pair but they look ok and are easy and comfortable to wear. I washed some of them yesterday and they shrunk in length by about 2 inches. Waist still ok.
80% cotton 20% polyester. I washed them at 40o and tumble-dried them. I stretched them while they were still wet but they still came out of the drier at half-mast !
Is there any way I can stretch them again? They look a bit ridiculous now.
Thanks if you can help me.

I used to be a drycleaner and dealt with this issue quite a bit. We would use a steamer which would relax the fibers enough that would allow you to stretch your garment back out to a certain degree. Pressing or ironing them immediately after stretching helps. The unfortunate news is; 1. The process would often times need to be repeated after washing again 2. or it was completely unsuccessful.
The cause of the shrinking is usually due to the conditioning of the fabric with several different sizings(a chemical that gives the fabric an artificial finish) that is stripped away in the wash. These are usually cheap fabrics.
Hope this helps.
sorry.. once cotton shrinks its pretty well permanent.
major mistake was the tumble dryer. you should also have washed in cold water.
It's great that the waist is still okay, but sorry about your trousers.
At this point, probably not, sorry, that you can stretch them to length again. Your best bet is to have them shortened into short pants for golfing and non work days.
Still, at 3 pounds each, not a bad price for shorts, either.
Sorry, I think you are out of luck on this one.
Take them back to the store, be assertive, and get your money back.
Only £3? Doesnt matter how much, it was your good money, wasnt it? Get it back.
And dont be tempted to admit you did anything wrong.
